Looking For Luxury – Who Are We?
We’re a married couple (David and Dawn) who are now retired and living in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds in England. We are ‘empty nesters‘ – the kids have moved out and now the dog has shuffled off this mortal coil, so for the first time in our lives we appear to be free and looking for luxury!
Ageing Gracefully?
As we’ve matured neither of us has escaped the odd health issue associated with getting older so a certain level of luxury is required to make our aches and pains more bearable. Like most people we feel a hundred times better with the Sun shining down on us and a beer (Dave) or a margarita/ glass of wine (me) in our hands!
Making A Change!
Now I’m a seasoned subscriber to the ‘hot flushes’ brigade and Dave can now be described as ‘Senior’ we decided that our winters were too long and miserable to put up with. So here we are, entering this new chapter in our lives. Looking for luxury in far off places without arriving grumpy (Dave), aching (me), and exhausted (both of us)!
A New Beginning!
The beginning of retirement can be the beginning of a new adventure or even a whole new life and we want to share it, but more importantly we want you to know how we did it and what it cost so you can make those holiday dreams a reality. We soon realized that during the Summer months when everyone is out and about, meeting up for drinks at the pub and visiting fete’s and festivals, we didn’t feel the need to escape. We have a home and garden to maintain like most people our age and a Koi pond to play with.
Changing Seasons
Of course once the Seasons begin to change these little guys go five feet down to the bottom of the pond and sulk so we can’t even see them from the house. This is usually our cue to travel somewhere warmer. Our all important travel insurance is on an annual policy and our passport current so as long as our bank account agrees with us (sometimes an issue!) we can jet off somewhere sunny. Well, that was the plan. We started the year with (yet another) trip to South West Florida with the intention of following it up with a full program of travel until the end of January 2021. Unfortunately fate had other plans.
While soaking up the Florida sunshine Covid 19 was declared a global pandemic and everything changed. The whole travel industry ground to an earth shattering halt. We took the last rescue flight home and went into months of lockdown and shielding. As the world slowly begins to turn again we have started to adapt to our new normal and search out new ways to improve our lives and our level of luxury. Follow our blog to see what the next chapter brings in these unusual times.
